Tahitian Furniture?
September 29th, 2008

Palm shapes and reeds. Does this look like tiki lounge furniture? Never thought of that until I looked at the pictures. It’s the beginning of a whole new genre: Tahitian Steel.

Another Attempt to Explain Delia
September 24th, 2008

I’m told that Delia eludes simple explanation. Probably. Its a been around, 14 years??, and has more than a single voice which was always the point. Instead of making some kind of accounting of our abilities and accomplishments it seems more fitting to just keep showing the work. After all, it is the reason we do what we do.

Many years ago we went to a trade show in San Francisco. Our booth weighed 5000 lbs. In hindsight that was kind of dumb. But it sure looked like a million bucks.

Its not uncommon to hear a great deal of yelling in response to the days events told on the radio. The radio is usually played at a high volume. So, if you are going to yell about the news, you really got to mean it. Delia is a big fan of Franklin Roosevelt.

I will never claim to understand the world of selling. See this little model bed? Well, people have bought more beds based upon seeing this little model than by seeing the real thing. Go figure.

The top on this sculpture spins in the wind. Its to be delivered to a house on the gorge and will be sorry to see it go. Nothing stays very long around here.

I am not a good photographer but I like the positioning of this shiny new sculpture in front of a pile of chaos. I think that about sums it up.

This is Hannah. She lives next door. She is a sweetie.

What a little dynamo. We love our old forklift. It tries so hard even when it hasn’t a prayer.

The raw materials of the trade.

I like that the logo says Veritas. I would like to be associated with that word.

Its a propane storage tank now used to make globes.

Outdoor glass cutting station. Could you work like this?

Napkin rings before they are plated. Delia is about production.

The last time I added up the total number of boxes packed I came up with 35,000. One tape gun.

Wooden bracelets for MoMA. Each one hand cut, shaped, sanded and painted.

Flowers that will last through the Winter
September 24th, 2008

Its hard to look at the darkening skies and not think of the coming rains. Portland, though immune from the cold and snow that chill other cities with similar longitudes, still has a northern kind of mentality. Its no coincidence that we have fantastic book stores and make lots of beer. Its what keeps us ’til the Spring. Perhaps this is why we made these flowers. Totems to remind us that the sun will come again and Portland will be one of the loveliest places on earth.

Occasional Tables
September 19th, 2008

These two are a nice addition to the Fall collection.

Colorful Tables
September 19th, 2008

A pair of side tables with a similar pattern scheme. One has little ball bearing feet. The bigger table is a terrific lamp table size. Tops are wood with screen printed pattern applied.

New Work
September 18th, 2008

In the coming days I will be posting images for our new Fall collection. Here is a starter course. Bases are steel. The tops are screen printed on wood. If you like, ring us up and buy one.

Patio Table with Matching Stools
September 18th, 2008

Another addition to our collection of indoor/outdoor steel and concrete tables. What makes this a remarkable addition is the color of the concrete top. It is stunning. And very reasonably priced.

Wood Grain Bed of Steel and Cedar
September 16th, 2008

I’ll be taking better pictures but I am so excited about this bed that I wanted to throw it up here as fast as I could. Its steel but it looks like wood grain. Get it??. I love it. Much credit for the concept goes to new Delia wunderkind Sari Gunderson.

You need an end table?
September 5th, 2008

Here is how we work at Delia. Go nuts. Make as much as we can possibly make. Weed out the bad ones. (that go for sale cheap in the showroom). Rebuild the ones that have potential. Repeat. In the end we hope to have one or two that are really good. Today was a good first step.

Each of the bases are made from steel. The tops are wood with a screen printed design applied.

Circular Thinking
September 1st, 2008

A pair of prototypes to show where we are going with this Fall’s designs.
