You need an end table?
September 5th, 2008

Here is how we work at Delia. Go nuts. Make as much as we can possibly make. Weed out the bad ones. (that go for sale cheap in the showroom). Rebuild the ones that have potential. Repeat. In the end we hope to have one or two that are really good. Today was a good first step.

Each of the bases are made from steel. The tops are wood with a screen printed design applied.

Glass Garden FLowers
July 28th, 2008

Making things for the yard is usually done with found objects, scrap and the extras. In this case, I used some of the glass drawer pull shapes that had been sitting about.

Indoor Steel and Concrete
July 25th, 2008

I think it still remains a bit odd for many people to embrace steel as a common indoor furniture material. Concrete is probably just as unexpected. This table of steel and concrete was made with the intention of it being a nice occasional table for the deck but it looks so good, so finished, that I kept it in the showroom. Now, will the purchaser use it indoors or out?

This table was a happy accident. The top is a plate shaped by the round cut out edge of another table. The color of the concrete is the result of running out of a color and mixing with two others and then it fell off the truck. The repair job put one more layer of use and time and the result seems just right.

A customer who bought the River Reed bed sent me this picture. I love how the bed looks so comfortable.

Steel and Concrete Cafe Table and Chairs
June 23rd, 2008

As I posted earlier, Delia has found a good man to do concrete. Here is a set of chairs and cafe table with concrete tops. The concrete is stained. The metal is painted. Once we get them into production they will be powder coated. Not bad for the second try.

A Summer’s Day at Delia
June 20th, 2008

What I did on the first morning of summer by Chris Cardy.

Open up the showroom and let in the masses. (that’s a bit of a joke)

img_2686.jpg
Fuel up for the day. We put in $10,000 worth of electrical upgrades into this building but I doubt if anything would really go if it wasnt for that $20 coffee pot and microwave.

img_2688.jpg
Quick photo to document a new lamp design. Its going to a display at a local bank in the afternoon.

img_2681.jpg
New garden pieces. Delia made the bases. Local concrete champion Quinn put in the concrete. Waiting for coloring and sealer. Spiffy.

Unload last night’s batch of Dingles from the kiln.

img_2695.jpg
The Dingles. Probably have to reglaze and fire again. Tiny abacus pieces need more sparkle.

Jeff, shop commander, is laying out the top for a custom bathroom vanity. Going to look dynamite. Customer is tiling top and adding gorgeous glass sink.

img_2693.jpg
The model for a table base I swear I’m going to finish this week. Maybe Monday.

Where the h*ll are the shipping guys?! Time to go find some workers.

Til Next time.
